PERSONALITY PROSTHETIC
Curated by Tamryn McDermott
April 3 - April 11
Photographs and cardboard masks from Tamryn McDermott’s Art Three and AP 3D Studio classes will be on display.
Using only cardboard, students were asked to magnify an aspect of their personality by creating a wearable mask or head-piece that covered their face or entire head. Some of the questions students considered when creating their masks were: “How can aspects of your identity be expressed symbolically? What aspect of your personality would you most like people to recognize/notice?” For example, Michael Schneeman’s mask, “enhances the idea that [he has] a different ‘face’ in everything [he] does.” Yasmina Karrakchou, a student of Randy Jacobson’s Professional Photo Studio, in the Fairfax Academy, photographed each student in their masks as they expressed the concept behind their mask through their body movements. These photographs will also be on display in the exhibition.
The Adam Lister Gallery Teen Art Group will present a group show of recent drawings, paintings and mixed media work. Members of this group spend their Saturdays in the gallery studio focusing on developing independent bodies of artwork that speak about their personal interests and ideas.
